Nicholas gets a pitching lesson

David was an all-star Little League pitcher when he was a boy. And I think he still regrets the choice he was forced to make when he started high school between baseball and track. He has loved baseball as long as I have known him, and he has fostered a love of the sport in me as well.

Megan doesn't play baseball, but she has definitely stuck to the diamond sports, becoming a very good little softball player. She is the leadoff batter and starting centerfielder for her travel softball team, but she, much to my relief, doesn't pitch. David tried to talk her into trying it, and like most softball players her age, she can perform a reasonable facsimile of the windmill pitch. But she is not interested in taking lessons, or practicing daily, or being the center of attention in the way being a pitcher requires.

Thank God.

Nicholas, on the other hand, being only 6, has tried several sports, and hasn't really found the one that has captivated him yet. And who knows, he may decide music or martial arts is his thing. There's still time to decide, right?

Apparently not.

Nicholas tried tee ball, last spring, and it didn't seem to hold his attention.

So David decided that if standing in the outfield was too boring for him, he would turn him into a pitcher so he never had the opportunity to get bored. This is what I found them doing in the yard one Sunday afternoon:

Here's Dad demonstrating the proper technique:

And here's Nicholas's form, what do you think?

He's trying out for the Smokies next week! ;-D
