Spring break 2009, Blowing Rock, NC

On Monday, the weather was still rainy and foggy, but we decided to visit the nearby town of Blowing Rock, NC. It has a cute little downtown area with a lot of shops and a fudge shop! Each child had earned $20 doing chores around the house to spend on our trip. Megan had a little more she had saved up and brought as well. I think she spent a total of about $15. Nicholas, on the other hand, was down to 11¢ in less than 45 minutes. After we convinced him NOT to buy the first thing he saw ("We'll remember where we saw it, and come back if you don't find anything else." As if.), he purchased a webkinz, a pig catapult, and enough candy to use up nearly the rest of his money.

I did NOT buy the gorgeous Lladro nativity (over $4000, in case you were wondering), but I did suggest to David that he start saving for it. He reminded me that I have a 6-year-old boy, and I pointed out that Nicholas would likely be 18 before he had accumulated the money!

After we finished our shopping, we had dinner at the Six Pence Pub. We ate a delicious chicken pot pie, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips. Everything was very tasty.

Following dinner, we all had ice cream at the fudge shop. Do you think Nicholas is enjoying himself?
