Spring Break 2009, Boone, NC, dyeing silks

One of the things we did while on vacation was to dye some playsilks with Koolaid to give to my niece, Riley, for her birthday.

We bought plain white silks from Thai Silks. Soak them in warm soapy water.

Dissolve a couple of packets of Koolaid in some water. We added a little vinegar to each pot, too.

Submerge the silks in the water and gradually bring the temperature up to 170ºF. The silks will soak up all the pigment, and the water will be clear.

Rinse the excess dye and hang to dry.

Enjoy your beautiful, custom made playsilks!
