Random photos from a softball tournament

We played a tournament this weekend in Gibbs. After getting beaten by the two best teams in the tournament (one of them beat us twice on Saturday) we came back Sunday as the underdogs but we came out strong. Unfortunately, the remainder of the tourney got rained out before we could win more than one game.

Some of my favorite shots from the tournament:

Look at that concentration!

Here Megan is doing her "step-ups" which is a technique her hitting instructor, Sarah Fekete, taught her to confuse the defense. Her coaches really like the new skill but they are still trying to get the language right. At one point I heard her coach yell to her, "Let's go, #9, do your step-slaps, er, go hard, swing away, uh, what does she call them??" :)

I like this one 'cause it looks like Megan is so fast, the camera can't even catch her! (She is.)

Here's LIbby, our intrepid team organizer, probably sending out a text telling everyone where to be when. She really does a great job, and it's a lot more work than you would think. Thanks, Libby!

One of the greatest things about fast-pitch softball, in my opinion, is the chanting. The girls (even when they get to college) chant cheers for their teammates from the dugout. There is something about girls cheering for themselves instead of cheering for somebody else doing a sport that I really like.

And finally, the best set of pictures of the tournament. Do you see the similarities? Both are pictures of two friends, sitting together playing a video game. One pair has a much larger screen (a whole softball field) and far more complicated characters (being that they are real girls). But after that, it's pretty much the same. You have to move your characters around on the screen, making sure they have enough lives, energy, and skills to beat your opponents. Some things never change, eh?
